Well, let me begin this post with some congratulatory words to all of my Phillies fans out there.  Well done.  Congratulations.  The boys from Philadelphia played well.  World Champions – who would’ve ever guessed?

So, some random thoughts running through my head today.

Well today is my daughter, Alyssa’s 9th birthday.  Can I tell you just how unreal that seems to me?  I remember like it was almost yesterday taking off after Bible School, cutting out of the 2nd service, to get Tammy to the hospital because she was in labor.  I remember quietly going to Pastor Paul to tell him we were heading out and why and asking him not to say anything to anyone.  In his excitement for us, he announced it from the pulpit.  The time has gone so quickly.  In another 9 she’ll be a senior in high school.  Please tell me the next 9 won’t go quite as fast.  Never mind, I know – they’ll go faster.

So, does everyone know what today is, besides Alyssa’s birthday?  That’s right – Reformation Day.  And you thought I was going to say Halloween.  This is the day that Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses on the doors of Wittenburg.  His words – those 95 statements – are generally seen as the official break from Catholicism, starting the reformation giving us what we know today as Protestantism.  Salvation by grace through faith alone.  That was the big one.  Reminding us that it is only through Jesus Christ and the work He did on the cross that we can have a restored relationship to God the Father and spend eternity with Him.  All we need to do is accept that work done by Christ on the cross as the payment for our sin and ask Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior, and follow Him.  It took incredible courage to stand up and do what Luther did.  He went completely against the system.  What about us?  Have you accepted that gift of eternal life and a restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ?  How about this – what is God calling you to do that may take the same kind of courage that it took Luther to nail those theses up on that door?  Are you willing to be a part of a new revolution proclaiming the love of God to a world that is searching?  What am I doing?

It’s gonna be a crazy weekend with probably a lot less sleep than I’d like that will start for me in about 30 minutes.  That said, see you all on Sunday.
